D. H. Howard Called By Death

Denton Henderson Howard of Pine City, was called by death at Lakeside Hospital, Friday, May 12th after an illness of several years. He was 85 years, four months and 22 days old at his death.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 14 from Swanson's Funeral Chapel. Rev. John H. Martin conducted the two o'clock services. DeWitt Gottry sang appropriate vocal solo, and was accompanied by Mrs. Gottry.

Pallbearers were: Ed Boreen, Richard Glasow, Ever Madison, Fred Engler, Otto Wiedemann, and Nels Trotten. Interment with made in New Birchwood Cemetery.

Denton Henderson Howard was born in Winterset, Iowa, December 20, 1863. He grew to manhood there, and on March 19, 1885 united in marriage to Melissa Jane Cornman in Winterset. They lived in Greenfield, Iowa, several years after they were first married and later farmed at Estherville, Iowa and Windom, before coming to Pine city in 1920. They sold their farm in 1942, and moved to town to retire. Mr. Howard joined the Church of Christ in 1900, and has been a member since.

Surviving besides the besides the wife are four children: Guy of Pine City; Lark of Turner, Oregon; Ray of Independence, Oregon; Denton of Currie, Minnesota, and Innah Fay Milburn of Salem, Oregon. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

One daughter preceded him in death.

Attendants at the last rites from far away were: Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Timmersman and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Timmersman of Mora; Mrs. C. Vahle of Tracy; Mr. and Mrs. Denton Howard, Merlin Howard and Mr. and Mrs. Silvernale of Currie; Donald Howard of St. Cloud; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Howard of St. Paul.
