CHARLES DOWNS, St Charles

Charles, age 87, passed away September 4, 2012.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. The family will greet friends 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, sons, Alan (Peg) of St. Charles and Craig (Loi) of Boone;brother, Larry (Doris) of St. Charles.

Memorials may go to Iowa Health Hospice.

CHARLES FRANKLIN DOWNS

Charles Franklin Downs, son of Carl Forest Downs and Wilma Clarine (Kinnaird) Downs was born December 11, 1924 in St. Charles, Iowa and passed from this life September 4, 2012 at Winterset Care Center North in Winterset, Iowa at 87 years of age.

Charles graduated from St.Charles High School in 1942 and attended 4 C's Business School in Des Moines. He was united in marriage to Yvonne (Bonnie) Nixon on September 26, 1945 in Winterset, Iowa, and two sons blessed this union. Charles was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed raising cattle. He was a member of St. Charles United Methodist Church, Winterset Hospital Board, and a 50+ member of the St. Charles Lions Club

Charles was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan; he loved baseball and played town-team baseball in his earlier years. He also enjoyed camping, square dancing, and was a bluegrass and country music fan; he played the banjo for many years.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Joy Belle Scrivner and Mary Ann Sumner.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Yvonne "Bonnie" Downs of Saint Charles; sons, Alan (Peggy) Downs of Saint Charles and Craig (Lois) Downs of Boone; grandchildren, Robert (Anne) Downs of West Des Moines, Scott (Ashley) Downs of St. Charles, Melinda (Matt) Brown of Granger, Kimberly (Fiancé, Grant Redeker) Downs of Boone; great grandchildren, Elena Downs, Ethon Downs, Elijah Downs, Morgan Downs, Liam Brown; brother, Larry (Doris) Downs of St. Charles ;as well as other relatives and many friends.

Memorials:
Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Health Hospice.

Visitation:
The family will greet friends from 6:30-8:00 Wednesday evening, September 5, 2012 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa.

Service:
Memorial services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa.

Cemetery:
Burial of cremains will be in the St. Charles Cemetery - St. Charles, Iowa.
