January 2010Christina Simmerman Mills, daughter of Albert Austin Powell and Nancy Laverna (Cooper) Powell was born July 30, 1922 in Madison County, IA and passed from this life Friday, January 22, 2010 at Kavanagh on 56th in Des Moines, Iowa at 87 years of age.
Christina was united in marriage to Nelson Felix Simmerman on October 18, 1941 and two sons blessed this union, Donald and Robert. They lived on a farm near Peru where Christina was a farm wife and mother. Nelson preceded her in death on June 23, 1986.
Following the death of Nelson, Christina moved to Osceola in 1987. She married Garould Andrew Mills on October 15, 1988. Garould preceded her in death on November 17, 2004.
Christina was a member of the First Christian Church in Osceola. She was a very active member of the Eastern Star, having served in many offices both locally and nationally including Past Worthy Matron and was the Grand Representative to Canada. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors; she enjoyed painting, playing bingo and playing with her great grandchildren.
Those relatives who preceded Christina in death were her parents; 1st. husband Nelson Simmerman; 2nd. husband, Garould Mills; 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory, son, Donald (Becky) Simmerman of Surprise, AZ; son, Robert Simmerman of Osceola; step-daughter, Phyllis (Darel) Foland of Van Wert; step-son, Marvin (Susan) Mills of Des Moines; grandchildren, David (Melissa) Simmerman of Alaska, Dennis (Vicki) Simmerman of Colorado, Debra (Mark) Stine of Osceola, Melinda Ebert of New Virginia, Janice (Kevin) Updike of Osceola, Cassie (Josh) Simmerman of Davis City; 14 great grandchildren, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
