Death of Dr. and Mrs. F. R. Smith at Winfield, Kansas

Old time residents of Ohio and Walnut townships will be interested in a brief sketch of Dr. and Mrs. F. R. Smith, both of whom formerly lived in the Ebenezer neighborhood and both of whom recently passed away at their later home in Winfield, Kansas.

Dr. Smith was born here in 1862 and moved to Kansas at the age of 12. After graduating from high school, he returned to Iowa to study at Keokuk Medical college and made his life work the practice of medicine.

In 1890 Dr. Smith and Miss Ella Simmons were married and went to Rice county, Kansas, and later to Winfield. Mrs. Smith died at Winfield on February 8th, and on the 26th of March her husband also passed on.

Both the Smith and the Simmons families were prominent in the early days of the Ebenezer neighborhood. Joshua Simmons of Winterset and Ora Simmons of Peru are brothers of Mrs. Smith and numerous kinsfolk of the two families reside in this county.
