Early Settler Rice County Is Dead

Sterling Farm journal: Mrs. Ellen Smith, one of the early day residents of Rice county, died at Winfield on September 27th, where she had gone recently to be with her son, Dr. F. R. Smith. She has been failing for some months and her death was not unexpected.

She with her husband, uncle Wm. Smith, came to Rice county in the early days, settled on a homestead in Rice county, where they lived for many years, respected and honored by all and raised a large family, which has been a credit to them in their later years of life.
