The community was horrified Saturday about noon when it was learned that Bent. Shell had been fatally injured in an accident at the Carey threshing machine, where he was attending the separator. The weather was a little damp that morning and it made the wheat tough and made considerable trouble. About half past eleven the feeder belt on the separator came off and in attempting to put it back on Bent. in some manner got caught and was lifted from the ground and thrown against the machine with such force that he received injuries which resulted in his death about an hour later. The injured man was rushed to town and given every possible aid, but his injuries were so serious that there never was any hope from the start and he died in a few minutes after having been taken home from the doctor's office.
Mr. Shell was a plumber and pump man by trade and had made G.F. Henry's store his headquarters for a number of years. He was an efficient mechanic and when the threshing season came on his services were in demand, as he was recognized as an expert separator man. Bent. was industrious and was always busy, and that he should meet such untimely end is a source of universal regret, and his bereaved wife and babies have the sincerest sympathy of the entire community.
Benton William Shell was born at Winterset, Iowa, August 8, 1875 and passed away at his home in Glasco, Kansas, August 30, 1919, age 44 years, 22 days. Was united in marriage to Bertha J. Winters, March 6, 1901. To this union were born two children, Constance June and Rosalee Naomi. He was a kind and loving husband and father, an obliging neighbor, a man who was always ready to lead a helping hand where ever he could be of service to anyone. His pleasant smile and loving helpful words will be missed by the whole community.
