Irene C. Brittain, formerly of Kamrar, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 16, 2004 at Adel Acres Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Adel. Her body was donated to science. Private family interment will be at a later date at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Van Meter.

Irene was born on May 16, 1916 in Madison County, the daughter of Joseph and Mary C. (Janda) Boos. She was united in marriage with R. Ward Brittain on March 10, 1938 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Van Meter.

Irene was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed doing volunteer work for the Adel Congregate Meals and throughout the community. Irene also enjoyed traveling and making new friends along the way, but she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Katherine J. Burnett of Marshalltown and Patricia I. Kramer of Urbandale; five grandchildren, Jeffery Burnett of Sherburn, MN, Joyce Peter-Clayberg of Nevada, Cindy Pelz of Van Meter, Christine Carlson of Gowrie and Steven Kramer of Clive; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Fisher of Adel. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Esther Radke; one brother, Robert Boos, a grandson, Kyle D. Peter, and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Burnett.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McCalley Funeral Home in Adel.
