Pauline A. Henderson, 99, died Monday, May 14, 2012 at her home at Senior Suites of Urbandale. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel where an Eastern Star service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Glen Echo Christian Church 4324 Douglas Avenue, Des Moines followed by burial at Masonic Cemetery.
Pauline was born December 7, 1912 to William and Anna Rubash in Colome, South Dakota. After her father died, her mother remarried George Elgar and the family moved from Winterset, Iowa to Des Moines. She graduated from North High School in 1931. Pauline started working at Farmer's Casualty after graduation. She married Earl J. Henderson September 10, 1939, and they had two children. Pauline stayed home with her family until her children were in school then she returned to work at Farmer's Casualty for 25 years.
Pauline was active in her church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a deaconess and elder. She and Earl were founding members at Glen Echo Christian Church. Pauline was a member of the Acanthus Lodge Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, T.T.T., Mended Hearts Chapter 90, The Shepherd's Center and Toastmasters Club. She also was a volunteer at the Des Moines Botanical Center.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Irene Sams; her grandson, David Henderson and her husband, Earl. She is survived by her son, James Henderson and his wife, Janet; her daughter, Anna Louise Templer and her husband, William; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Glen Echo Christian Church or the American Heart Association.
