Viola P. Monaghan, 69, of 329 N.W. Stratford Lane, Ankeny, died of a heart ailment Monday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church and burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Cumming.

Mrs. Monaghan was born in Fort Dodge and lived in Ankeny for 38 years. She retired as a cook at Ankeny High School and was treasurer of the Fiddler’s Club of Iowa.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty Monaghan and Thelma Roush, both of Ankeny, and Peggy Herrington of Des Moines; four sons, William of Phoenix, Ariz., James of Des Moines, Thomas of Bondurant and John of Ankeny; three brothers, Art Ackerson of Rice Lake, Wis., Leonard Ackerson of Merced, Calif., and Doug Ackerson of Victorville, Calif.; and 18 grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Ankeny Funeral Home, where a Scripture wake service will be read at 7 p.m.
