Leonidas Renshaw died at his home in Portland, Ore., Nov. 1, at the age of 81 years. He was a native of Pennsylvania and emigrated to Iowa with his father's family when 15 years of age. There were four brothers and five sisters, all of whom grew to manhood and womanhood with the sterling qualities that make good citizens. Five of this family celebrated their golden weddings.
In 1860, in Clayton county, Iowa, Mr. Renshaw married Miss Marietta Alger, who died in 1866. He married Miss Angeline Alger in 1867, removing soon after to Madison county, Retiring from farming in 1894, he lived in Indianola until he went to Portland in 1905 to visit a daughter, Mrs. Martha Dabney. Since that he purchased himself a home and remained there until his death.
He will be remembered in Madison county as an industrious farmer, an active worker for the uplifting of the community in which he lived. A just man and true to his convictions. The Renshaw farm in Jefferson township was mostly raw prairie when he moved on it, consisting of a half section of the best land on Quaker divide, and when Mr. Renshaw left it to remove to Indianola to educate his children it was the most desirable farm in Madison county. It is now owned by Mr. Cutshall.
He was the father of ten children, and is survived by his widow, Mrs. Angeline Renshaw, and five children, as follows: Mrs. Martha Dabney, Mrs. Linnie Cottingham and Mrs. Gladys Osborne of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Ethel Fox of Indianola and Milton Renshaw of Seattle, Wash. Those who passed away before their father were Byron, Oscar, Orville and Mrs. Effie Hayden, and a son who died in infancy. All these will be remembered by those who were their neighbors in Jefferson township.
Mr. Renshaw was confined to his home for nearly a year with arteriosclerosis. He was buried in the beautiful cemetery at Portland, Ore., beside a loved son and daughter who preceded him.
