DORINDO STURMAN FARRIS

Dorindo Sturman Farris was born in Ohio and came to Madison county, Iowa, with her parents when quite a small child, and lived there for over 40 years. She was united in marriage to James H. Farris in 1860. To their union were born five children, namely, Jerette, Henderson, Lillian, Mary, and Nellie. The oldest and youngest died in infancy. Her husband preceded her in death, passed away July 5, 1907, at Yates Center, Kansas, where they moved in 1906 for his failing health. She returned to Winterset in 1911 and located there till she located in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1917, where she remained until her death.

Her surviving children are Henderson E. Farris of Atwood, Colorado, and Mrs. Mary Whitmer of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Lillian Sorenson died in Kansas City, Missouri, in September, 1919. Mrs. Farris left twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and a large number of friends to mourn her loss. She was a loving and faithful mother to the last.

She made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Whitmer, for the past several months as she was unable to be alone and her last illness and death came at that place. He was converted and baptized in the Christian church at Yates Center, Kansas, in 1909, and lived a quiet christian life, her remaining years, and often expressed herself as “praying to God to care for her and show her the proper way to live.” She prayed for her grandsons at war and wept bitterly when they did not return, but consoled herself that “Thy Will Be Done,” and that she would meet them soon, where there are no painful partings.

She was placed by the side of her husband in Yates Center cemetery, to rest.
