Waukee formerly of AdelJacob L. Cushing, 98, passed away Friday at Legacy Pointe in Waukee. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday April 5, at the United Methodist Church in Adel with burial at Walnut Township Cemetery in Waukee. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m.
Jacob was born July 31, 1913 to Bryon and Eva (Forret) Cushing. He graduated from Van Meter High School. He married Florence Snyder on June 7, 1940. They farmed in the Earlham area before moving to Adel where Jake continued working for Pioneer Hi-Breed Seed Corn in Johnston. He was employed by Pioneer for over 30 years.
He is survived by daughters, Annette (Joe) Dowd of Omaha, NE and Joyce (Don) Klimes of Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Brad (Catesby Major) Dowd of Kansas City and Ryan (Martha) Dowd of Omaha; three great-grandsons, Jacob, Andrew and Leo; sister-in-law, Dorothy Cushing; and many special nieces and nephews and their families.
He is proceeded in death by his wife, Florence (October 28. 2011); his parents; brothers, Mathias, Tom and James; sisters Helen Palmer and Ina Allen; nephew, Richard Cushing.
