Week’s Letter from Earlham

ROSCOE DUNCAN, FORMER RESIDENT, DIES IN ILLINOIS

Word was received of the death of Roscoe Duncan of Peoria, Ill., from a heart attack Sunday March 10th. Mr. Duncan who was fifty four years old at the time of his death, was born in Earlham. His sister Maude Duncan is the only surviving member of the family.

Roscoe Duncan Dies Suddenly At Age 53

Word was received here this week of the sudden death last Sunday of Roscoe Duncan, of East Peoria, Illinois, former resident of Earlham. He was 53 years of age.

Mr. Duncan, who is publisher of the East Peoria Courier and Creve Cocur Clarion newspapers, was found dead in his shop at 7:45 o’clock that morning. An autopsy performed by a physician revealed death was due to coronary thrombosis.

He was born in Earlham, June 15, 1888, the son of Samuel and Barbara Gordon Duncan. He went to Peoria in 1925 where he has since resided. He was a member of the Modern Woodman of America and a member of the Presbyterian church.

He is survived by one sister, E. Maude Duncan of East Peru and two nieces and three nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, March 18 at the East Peoria First Methodist church with the Rev. F. D. Kern officiating. Burial was made in East Peoria.
