The young man's death occurred yesterday, in a lumber camp in California but details are entirely lacking as yet. Earl has been away from home for several years making his home in the west.

The parents of Earl Detrick received the first direct news of his death last Saturday evening, a letter written by C. H. Crawford, the father of Earl's nearest chum. The accident occurred at Duncan Mills, not far from Monte Rio and Santa Rosa, Ca. Earl Crawford and Earl Detrick were under the employment of the Mitchell Lumber Co., and had only worked a day and a half when the accident occurred. The lumber crew was working about a half a mile up the side of a hill, and were letting logs down with a cable, which was attached to a tree. The tree gave away and let the logs loose. It was but a miracle that the whole crew was not killed.

Earl Detrick and Earl Crawford were working side by side; the Crawford boy jumped aside but Earl Detrick was not quick enough . He was hit by one of the logs and died an hour later. He was buried at Gurensville, Ca., the following Sunday. Earl had been in California three years and five months and was expecting to come home next spring.
