Roy Allen died Friday from the effects of a fall while working on the Lavirtus Lippold house in St. Mary's. The scaffolding fell, Allen receiving injuries which proved fatal.
Funeral services were held at New Virginia on Sunday and the burial made in the Peru cemetery. Mr. Allen grew to manhood in the Elm Grove vicinity, moving to New Virginia about twenty years ago.

Roy, son of Thomas J. and Clara I. Allen, was born in Scott Township, Madison County, Iowa, October 17, 1887, and departed this life at the Lutheran hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, August 2, 1940, aged 52 years, 9 months and 15 days.
He grew to manhood in Madison County where he received his education. His mother died when he was five years old, and his Aunt Mary Landers cared for him until his father later remarried.
On February 12th, 1907 he was united in marriage to Miss Edith Pearl Childers and to this union were born four children who survive. Mrs. Allen died on March 3rd, 1916. That same year he moved to New Virginia. His sister, Nell, came to care for the children.
On August 29th, 1918 he was united in marriage with Miss Hazel Wharff at Des Moines, Iowa.
Mr. Allen was in the produce business in New Virginia for thirteen years. At the time of his death he was a carpenter.
He was also a member of the Yoeman Lodge and served as Town Clerk for several years.
In the year 1900, Roy was converted in the Elm Grove Methodist Church near St. Charles. On November 13th, 1921 he transferred his membership to the New Virginia Methodist Church, serving for a number of years as an official member.
Roy was a respected citizen, beloved by all, especially little children, to whom he devoted much of his time. He entertained his grandchildren by telling them stories and original jungles and songs.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Hazel, four children: Mrs. Louise Bell of Newton, Iowa; Mrs. Lois Daniels, Fred and Eugene of Des Moines, six grandchildren, two sisters; Mrs. Nell Woodbury of Grant’s Pass, Oregon and Mrs. Lester Smith of St. Charles; two brothers; E. N. Allen of Winterset and W. F. Allen of Minneapolis, Minn. One brother, Fred, preceded him in death. There also survive his Grandmother, Uncles and Aunts and other relatives and a host of friends.
