Mardis Wintford Collins, 82, of Truro died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, near his home in Truro.
Funeral services were held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola on Saturday, Jan. 14, with interment in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Broadhorn Church or Virginia Township Fire & Rescue.
Mardis, the son of Cager and Lottie (Craig) Collins, was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Weldon, Iowa. Mardis graduated from Weldon High School in 1948 as valedictorian. He was united in marriage to Leona Wanda Powell on Oct. 12, 1952, in Osceola. Mardis was a farmer and had lived on the farm near Truro for 51 years. He also worked as a sewing machine mechanic at Snowdens in Osceola, at Linfield Glove in Des Moines and as a maintenance engineer at Midwest Bag in Des Moines. He was a member of the Broadhorn Church and Gideons.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Collins of Truro; his son, Terry Collins of Truro; his daughter, Vicky Stout-Trickey of Osceola; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brothers, Harland Collins of Weldon and Wayne Collins of Indianola; as well as many other relatives and friends.
