DAVID SHUTT, PIONEER HERE DIED LAST WEEK IN DES MOINES
David Shutt passed away Tuesday morning at the home of his son in Des Moines and funeral services were held here Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church conducted by Rev. Lucille L. Smith with burial in the St. Charles cemetery. Mr. Shutt was an old pioneer of this community and lived in St. Charles for many years until the death of his wife, a few years ago and since then had made his home with his children. He was 87 years old and is survived by five sons, Albert of Oklahoma, Elmer, George, Harry and Frank, of Des Moines and one daughter, Mrs. Della Crawford of Tulare, Calif.

Funeral services for David Shutt who died August 8 in Des Moines, were held at the Methodist church in St. Charles on Thursday of last week, Rev. Lucius L. Smith conducting the service and burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
David Shutt was born near Springfield, Illinois, November 12, 1852, the same month and year that St. Charles was platted, and came to Jackson township in Warren county, Iowa, in 1853. He was married to Mary Jane Black, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Black, who were early pioneers of Madison county, March 7, 1876.
Mr. and Mrs. Shutt lived in Jackson township until about 25 years ago when they came to St. Charles. Following the death of Mrs. Shutt, who died November 7, 1934; he made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Millie Stevens, until her death in January, 1937. He then made his home with his sons.
He is survived by five sons: Albert of Woodard, Okla., George, Elmer, Frank and Harry, of Des Moines; Mrs. Della Crawford of Tulare, Calif.
Pallbearers were his nephews, W. R. Shutt, Garry Black, Fred Black, Frank Black, jr., and Jesse Crawford. Music was furnished by Mesdames C. C. Guilliams, Mary Crawford, Ed R. Beitzell, C. M. Buchanan with Miss Maxine Neuman, pianist.
