HAROLD COOPER IS VICTIM OF CRASH

Accident Near Creston Last Saturday Night Claimed Two Lives

Harold Cooper, aged 24, of Winterset was killed in a tragic highway crash near Creston Saturday night that also claimed the life of Mrs. Bruce McFee of Lenox and seriously injured five other persons.

The crash occurred about two miles southwest of Creston on highway No. 34. Cooper was driving his light truck, and was carrying as passengers, Jennie Albaugh, aged 20 and Phillip Albaugh, aged 17. It was a terrific head on collision. The second vehicle involved was a car driven by Bruce McFee, aged 43, of Lenox.

The injured were: Miss Albaugh, a fractured pelvis, Phillip Albaugh, minor injuries; Mr. McFee, fractured pelvis; Donna Jean, 7-year-old daughter of the McFees, a double compound fracture of the leg; and Mrs. McFee, aged --, cuts and bruises.

Both the truck and the automobile were practically demolished.

Harold Russell Cooper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cooper, was born June 27, 1913, in Madison county. His boyhood was spent in and around Winterset. He attended Sunday school and church at the Protestant Community church east of town as long as the family lived in that neighborhood.

On Dec. 24, 1937, he was married to Miss Marion Janes of Patterson, at Des Moines; they made their home in Winterset until the latter part of July when they separated and since then he has resided here with his mother, Mrs. W. F. Jones.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother. He leaves his mother and foster father, four sisters: Mrs. Roy Linden of North Platte, Neb., and Josephine, Grace and Bellemora Cooper of Winterset and three brothers: Alvin, Wayne, and Emery Cooper all of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Tidrick funeral home in charge of the Rev. J. H. Cochrane, Jr., pastor of the Baptist church. Burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
