Frances V. Allen was born at Wapello, Iowa, September 16, 1861 and died October 3, 1918, her age being 57 years and 17 days. She grew to womanhood at the place of her birth and was united in marriage with Ernest Rosa, July 8, l878. To this union five children were born, two of whom died in childhood. The three surviving children are Mrs, A. J. Ward, of Van Wert, Iowa; Mrs. E. B. Standish, of Minneapolis; and James Rosa, who is now at Camp bowie, Fort Worth, Texas.

Her husband Ernest Rosa, died July 12, 1896, and on August 2, 1904, she was united in marriage with J.M. Allen, of Madison County, Iowa, where they lived until the year 1907, when they moved to Van Wert, Iowa, which has been her home to the present time. She professed Christ and united with the Christian Church in 1893, and when she moved to Madison County, Iowa, she transferred her membership to the Methodist Episcopal Church.

She was always of a cheerful temperament and full of action. Her Christian life was marked with a lively interest for everything that had to do with the work of the church. She was capable as a leader of the Ladies Aid Societies, as a Sunday School Teacher and in personal work for the salvation of souls. In conversation with her, she revealed a faith in God that was strong. One of her greatest sorrows in her last illness was that she could not attend church services. She repeatedly said that she was prepared to meet her Lord and Master, and there is no doubt but that her long and great suffering has been healed by the glory of the life that is immortal, and her mourning has been exchanged for a crown of rejoicing.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, three children, seven grandchildren, a number of step-children, her mother, four sisters, and a host of friends both here and at former places of residence. The hand of sympathy is extended by those who knew her life, to the immediate family in this time of sorrow for the loss that is common to all.
