H. F. DEVAULT DIES AT SAVANNAH, MO.

H. F. Devault, for fifty years a resident of Jackson township died at Savannah, Mo. on Oct. 30.

A few weeks ago, Mr. Devault went to Savannah to have a cancerous growth on his hand treated. His letters home indicated that the cancer was responding to treatment and that he would be home by election day. On last Wednesday morning the family received a telegram announcing his serious illness and later in the day, a second telegram announced his death. The men in charge of the sanitarium at Savannah gave pneumonia as the cause of death, but the family are inclined to believe that his death was due to paralysis of apoplexy, and base their opinion on the testimony of other patients, who were at the sanitarium.

Mr. Devault was a veteran of the Civil War, and came here from Johnson county in 1868. He was born in Indiana in 1837. Three brothers surviving are: J. J. and C. R. Devault of this county, and Geo. Devault of Cedar Rapids. One son, C. H. and one daughter, Mrs. W. W. Darke, reside in this county, and one son C. A. Devault, resides at Sterling, Colo.

Funeral services were held at the Webster M. E. church on Sunday afternoon and burial at the Roberts cemetery, the Masonic order officiating at the grave.
