Dr. Arthur C. Hutchins passed away Monday, April 23rd at a hospital in Mt. Pleasant. He was born in Clayton county, Iowa on September 12th, 1862. In early childhood he came with his parents to Madison county where he grew to manhood.

On December 15, 1889 he married Eva J. Lightner and to this union five children were born. Two of the children, an infant boy and a daughter Helen, five years old, preceded him in death.

He taught school for several years, being superintendent at Woodburn, in Clarke county, at Van Meter and De Soto. Following this he was county superintendent of schools in Dallas county for four years. In 1905 he graduated from Drake medical college and started practicing medicine in Des Moines, continuing there until three years ago when failing health necessitated his retirement from active service.

Surviving him are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Erickson of Greeley, Colorado and Mrs. Ward Bennett of Tampa, Florida and a son John S. Hutchins of Greeley, Colorado, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, two sisters, Mrs. Mayme Howell of Van Meter and Mrs. Lee McLean of Boulder, Colorado, two brothers, Joe Hutchins of Lamar, Colorado and Charles of La Junta, Colorado.

Funeral services were held here at the Fisher Funeral home Thursday afternoon conducted by the Rev. S. C. Peterson. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery.
