Charles Johnson, a long time resident of the Bear Creek community, passed away Sunday at his home following a several months illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Bear Creek church with burial in the Earlham cemetery.

Thursday, July 26, 1934Sunday morning as our people gathered at the church news came of the death of Charley Johnson, a long time resident of this community. A large crowd of neighbors and friends were present at the funeral Tuesday afternoon which was conducted by Mrs. Hurd of Redfield. The music was furnished by a mixed quartet, Oren Hadley, Lloyd Mendenhall, Gertrude Conrad and Alma Mapes. The pallbearers were the young men of his immediate neighborhood which were Ober, John and Fremont Hadley, Russell Applegate, Harris Kenworthy and Francis Mapes. Burial was in Earlham cemetery.

Well Known Bear Creek Man Passed Away Sunday, July 22 After Lingering Illness.
Chas. Johnson, a prominent and well known farmer southwest of Redfield passed away at his home Sunday morning following a lingering illness. He has always taken an active part in the affairs of his community and his passing is regretted by all who knew him.
Charles Reed Johnson, oldest son of James H. and Isabel Johnson was born near Findley, Ohio, January 16, 1864. He passed away at his home in Dallas County, Iowa July 22, 1934, aged 70 years, 6 months and 6 days.
He came to Jasper County, Iowa in 1865, living there until the spring of 1890 when he moved to Dallas County, following the occupation of farming until his death.
He was united in marriage to Hattie B. Weaver June 22, 1893. Mr. Johnson never affiliated with any church, but has attended the Friends Church at Bear Creek for a number of years. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Mrs. Hattie B. Johnson, one sister, Mrs. Maud Lowry of Alliance, Nebr., three nephews, four nieces and a large number of friends and neighbors. One sister and one brother preceded him in death. His pleasant disposition and interest taken in community affairs in which he lived won him many friends among the people with whom he came in contact.
He was a very patient sufferer during his last illness which covered a period of seven months.
Funeral services were conducted at the Bear Creek Church Tuesday afternoon by Mrs. H. C. Hurd. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
