Isaac J. Davis
Isaac J. Davis was born in Allen Center, Allegheny county, New York March 25, 1831 and died in Madison county, Iowa April 14, 1922, aged 91 years, 20 days. He was one of a family of ten children, seven brothers and three sisters, all of whom have passed before, except Thomas, the youngest.
He was married to Orpha Kimball on Dec. 23, 1863, who preceded him in death, Oct. 11, 1917. To this union was born one child, Elzina, now Mrs. R. S. Taylor of Jefferson township, with whom he made his home since the death of his wife. He came to Iowa in 1871 and to Madison county in 1872, where he has since resided.
On Jan 21st, he fell and broke his hip and has been a very patient sufferer ever since.
He was raised a Presbyterian, but since coming west he became a member of the United Brethren church and has held his membership there until the time of his death. He was a great reader until last year, when his eyesight failed, but he still enjoyed hearing and discussing events which were taking place. He was also a great student of the scripture.
Funeral services were held at the North River U. B. church by Rev. Hollingshead of Van Meter.
