Carroll Gene "Ole" Bond, Earlham

Carroll "Ole" Bond, age 81 died at New Homestead Care Center in Guthrie Center on December 1, 2010. Graveside memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday August 6, 2011 at Fairview Cemetery South of DeSoto, Iowa on Hiway 169. Family will greet friends directly following the service. Ole worked at Oscar Meyer Pork Plant in Perry until his retirement. Ole is survived by his daughter Christine Scar (Dennis) of Earlham, son Patrick Bond of Dexter; three grandchildren, three great-grandsons and a nephew.

CARROLL G. “OLE” BOND

Carroll Gene Bond was born September 21, 1929, to Lucille (nee Armstrong) and Henry Bond in Madison County. He was raised in Madison and Dallas Counties, graduating from DeSoto High School. He died December 1, 2010 in Guthrie County, Iowa, at the age of 81.

Ole, as he was nicknamed, married Virginia Wells of Dexter in 1948. They lived in the Dexter and Earlham area where they raised their family. After divorcing, Ole lived in Perry, to be nearer his job at Oscar Meyer, until his retirement in the late 80’s when he moved to Mission, Texas. His final years were spent back in Iowa near his children.

His occupations were varied and he worked at the following businesses during his lifetime: Schirm Produce, Dexter Oil Company, Fillman Farms, Bentler Oil Company, Earlham Farmers Cooperative, and Oscar Meyer.

Ole was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing almost every day after retirement. When he was younger he enjoyed belonging to the Earlham Saddle Club and raising horses. He also enjoyed playing cribbage, fishing and watching high school sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry A. Bond and Lucille Bond Lewis; a son, Gary Bond; and a brother, Royal “Pete” Bond. Survivors include children: Christine Scar (Dennis) of Earlham, Patrick Bond of Dexter, and grandchildren, Deni Sobek (Edward) of Oak Ridge, TN, Christa Scar of Omaha, NE, and Charles Scar (Nicole) of Dallas Center. Also surviving is a nephew, Mark Wells of Colorado, who was raised by Ole and Virginia, and 3 great-grandsons.
