JAMES ALLAN SCOLES

James Allan Scoles, 65, of Winterset died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A military graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, July 29, at the Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg with honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and the American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset. A memorial luncheon will be held at the VFW Legion Hall in Winterset immediately following services at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to his family.

Jim was born Jan. 5, 1946, in Des Moines, the son of Glenn and Phyllis (Beerbower) Scoles. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1964. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. His marriage to Jeanette Kiddoo took place June 21, 1969, in Macksburg.

Upon leaving the Navy he worked at North Island Naval Base in Coronado, Calif. Upon moving back to Iowa in 1978, he worked for Kirkland Motors in Winterset and then later retired from the Winterset Municipal Utilities Water Department after 27 years of service. He was a member of VFW Post 8142 and the Green Rogers American Legion 184.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Scoles.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette of Winterset; his son, Jason Scoles of Winterset; daughter Amy Freidhof; his mother, Phyllis Scoles; sisters, Renee Simmons and Susan Gruber, all of Winterset; two grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
