Mary C. Laurie, 72, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Irish Settlement in Cumming, with burial following at St. Patrick Cemetery. A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 5, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m., at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home.
Mary was born April 26, 1939, in Des Moines. She grew up in Churchville, and in her early years worked as a cook at Simpson College and Regency Care Center. During her later years she enjoyed sewing, planting flowers and tending her garden. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and loved taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her children, son, Jimmy (Kelly) Laurie, son, Tony (Brenda) Laurie, son, John (Jess) Laurie, son, Danny (Lindsay) Laurie, Tommy Laurie, Steve Laurie, Donny Laurie, Francis Laurie; grandchildren, Zac, Zeb, Sierra, Daniel, Aaliyah, Anthony, Ashley (Sam), Toby, Jimmy; great grandchildren, Sammie, Orion, Liam, Miya; brother, George Johnson; and sister Elizabeth “Bettie” Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Laurie and brother, Charles Johnson.
