BLANCHE WELCH, WINTERSET

Blanche Welch, 87, of Winterset, Iowa, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, at the First Baptist Church in Winterset with Rev. Dr. John Shaull and Pastor Mike Carlson officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery at Winterset.

Blanche was born on July 5, 1923, at Madison County, Iowa to Everett & Winifred (McCoy) Hircock. She graduated from Winterset High School at the age of 16 and then went on to graduate with honors from the American Institute of Business with a business degree in 1942. She was married on June 14, 1942 at Princeton, Missouri, to Wayne Lucas Welch. After Wayne's death, Blanche was briefly married to Daryle Dean Coffman. Blanche had been a lifetime resident of Madison County having worked as an operator and customer service representative for Northwestern Bell Telephone and had also helped her husband farm. She had been a member of the Pitzer Church and the First United Methodist Church. Blanche enjoyed spending winters in Arizona.

Blanche is survived by her son, Richard Duane (Ruth Snethen) Welch of Casa Grande, Arizona; daughter, Roxanne Welch Johnston of Winterset; daughter-in-law, Connie Neisemier Welch of Windemere, Florida; former daughter-in-law, Margaret Kay Bell Welch Hunt of Avondale, Arizona; granddhildren, Richelle Renae Welch Mason, Amy Suzanne Welch Webb, Ryan Douglas Welch, Travis Wayne Welch, Jason Robert Johnston and Jeffery Thomas Johnston; and great grandchildren, Tanner Lucas Webb, Olivia Anne McNair, Michael Steven Mason, Jr., McKenzie Taylor Mason, Madisyn Louise Welch, Jakob Thomas Johnston, Emelia May Johnston, Katherine Rose Johnston, Morgyn Jean Welch, Rachael Elizabeth Johnston, and Charlotte Kaye Johnston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett Author & Winifred Idel (McCoy) Hircock, husband, Wayne Lucas Welch; son, Ronald Wayne Welch, son-in-law Thomas Robert Johnston, brothers, Edward Charles Hircock and Robert Arthur Hircock; and sister, Mary Lucille Hircock Robinson.

Memorials given to the family will directed to Care Initiatives Hospice in Greenfield or Madison Square Assisted Living.

Funeral arrangements were handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
