Geraldine ‘Jerry’ Schwabe, 89, of Winterset died May 12, 2011, at the Madison County Health Care System in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 17, at Ochiltree Funeral Service, with burial in the McDonald-Chase Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Jerry was born in Adair, Iowa, on Jan. 22, 1922, the daughter of Glenn and Mildred (Furstenburg) Parkinson. She graduated from Adair High School and later married Earl “Bud” Schwabe on Feb. 10, 1944, in Maryville, Mo.
Jerry was a homemaker most of her life and along with Earl, managed the Bee Hive restaurant on the east edge of Winterset for several years. During World War II she worked as a governess for a family in California while her husband was stationed at San Bernadino. Prior to this she worked at the movie theater in Adair.
She and Earl moved to North Ward Plaza in 1980 and she continued to live there until 2006 when she moved in with her daughter. She was active in the North Ward Plaza Group serving as its President for many years. When she was younger, she was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl.
She is survived by her children, Glenn Schwabe of Wichita, Kan.; Dennis Schwabe of Winterset; Rick Schwabe of Altoona and Cindy Aukes of Winterset; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
