Van Meter -

Emery H. Pierce who suffered an operation for a ruptured appendix at Mercy Hospital March 1st, passed away Friday evening, March 11th.

Mr. Pierce was born August 20, 1886 and spent his entire life in Madison and Dallas counties.

On January 6, 1915 he was united in marriage to Mary Thornton. The past fifteen years they have lived on a farm south of De Soto.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, two daughters, Larraine and Lucille, one sister, Mrs. W. H. Shoults, two brothers, Mollie A. and Earl R., all of Van Meter.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the United Brethren church in Van Meter. Rev. Elliott in charge, assisted by Rev. Peterson.

Interment was at Union Chapel cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Ora Thornton of Grinnell were here Sunday to attend the funeral services of Emery H. Pierce.

Neighborhood News -

Emery Price (sic) who lived south of De Soto died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines after an illness of about one week. He was operated on for appendicitis, but was almost beyond help when taken to the hospital.

His funeral was held at the Medthodist church in Van Meter Sunday afternoon. The interment taking place in the Thornton cemetery north of Van Meter.

His wife and two daughters survive him.

OBITUARY – Emery H. Pierce

Emery Harold Pierce, son of Alfred and Addie Pierce, was born August 20, 1886 on a farm south east of Van Meter, and died at mercy hospital in Des Moines, march 11, following an operation for appendicitis, aged 45 years, 6 months and 20 days.

On January 6, 1915 he was married to Mary Thornton, daughter of William and Olive Thornton. Three children were born to them, all living except Louise who died when an infant.

Mr. Pierce spent his entire life in Madison and Dallas counties, living the past fifteen years on a farm just south of De Soto. He leaves his wife, two daughters, Lorraine and Lucille; one sister, Mrs. W. H. Shoults and two brothers, Mellie and Earl, all of Van Meter.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the United Brethren church in Van Meter, Rev. Elliott in charge, assisted by Rev. Peterson; burial was in the Union Chapel cemetery.
