Darwin E. "Darby" Young, 79, Shawnee, died July 13, 1993, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Newcomer's Overland Park Chapel; burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Shawnee Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Young was born in Winterset, Iowa, and moved to this area in 1952.

He was a truck driver and leased to Southwest Freight Lines for 27 years; he retired in 1976. He was a member of Local 41 of the Teamsters union. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Alverna Manlove Young of the home; a son, Gary D. Young, Melvern, Kan.; a daughter, M. Jill Getz, Overland Park; a brother, Chet Young, La Mesa, Calif.; four sisters, Mary Hendrickson, Sacramento, Calif., Minnie Shumaker, Carthage, Mo., and Ardythe Richards and Ethel Bowen of Yuma, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.
