Page 1Death of Alonzo Finney
Alonzo Finney, a veteran of the Civil war, and one of the old residents of Winterset, died Friday, February 17th, at his home in the northwest part of town. He had been seriously ill for a long time and creeping paralysis and heart trouble caused his death.
Mr. Finney was 81 years of age at the time of his death, having been born in Delaware county, Ohio, March 6, 1847. He came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Finney, to Adair county when he was a small boy. At the outbreak of the Civil war, he and his twin brother, Lorenzo, joined the army and served in Co. I, 4th Iowa Cavalry.
He was married to Miss Alice Garretson, August 19, 1869, in Winterset, and he has since then made this place his home.
Mr. Finney is survived by his wife and three children, Oliver Finney, of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. J. A. Brady, of Minneapolis, and George W., of Winterset.
Rev. F. Clare McCallon conducted the funeral services at the home, Saturday afternoon, and burial was made in the local cemetery.
