EVERT CLAGUE Meets Death in Sink Hole, Friday

Evert Clague, son of Thos and Mary Clague of Douglas township, was drowned last Friday evening while bathing in North river. He and his brother, with Rev. Clark, pastor of Worthington church, went to the river together. The two boys could not swim and Rev Clark was a short distance away when Evert sank in a hole. Rev. Clark hastened to his rescue and was dragged down by the drowning man who was a strong young fellow. When Rev. Clark freed himself from Clague's grip, the latter had sunk for the last time. The body was recovered two or three hours later close to the spot where the accident happened.

Mr. Clague was a youth of twenty years, an earnest Christian worker in Sunday school and other church organizations. He was an interested participant in the Older Boys' conference held here last March.

His death was a great shock and sorrow to all who knew him and his family. Rev. Weirick of Van Wert, former pastor at Worthington, conducted the funeral services at the church Sunday afternoon.

Transcriber's Note: Burial was at Worthington cemetery.
