Death of Mrs. Bessie Black

St. Charles, January 8. Special

Bessie Colley was born in Barksville, Kentucky, August 8th, 1869. Her father died when she was eight years old. She came to Iowa with her mother. She was married to Alex Black, December 19th, 1899. To this union four children were born, three sons, Lloyd, Frank and Fred, and one daughter, Laura.

She died at her home in St. Charles, January 6, 1928, aged 58 years, 4 months and 28 days. She had been in failing health for the past 19 years and gradually grew worse. She leaves her husband, three sons, one daughter, Mrs. Melville Torrence, five grandchildren, all of this place; one half-sister, Mrs. Jennie Lakey, of Colorado; one half-brother, Robert Howard of Big Horn, Wyoming, and many other relatives here. She was a member of the M. E. church.

The funeral sermon was preached by her pastor, Rev. F. G. Barnes, in the M. E. church, January 8th, at 2:30 p.m. and was buried in the St. Charles cemetery west of town.
