Death of Mrs. Margaret Brownell

Mrs. Margaret Null Brownell's death at her home on Sunday, April 15th, brought genuine sorrow to many residents of Winterset. She had been in failing health for over a year, but was a marvel of cheerfulness and bravery, in the face of her malady, which she knew would be fatal. Her final illness was brief, coming on suddenly Friday morning. Relapsing into unconsciousness, the end came with great rapidity.

She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Null of Preble county, Ohio and had lived in Winterset since she was about twelve years old. Her marriage to Ronald Bain occurred in 1878. Several years after his death she was married to Ezra Brownell.

Mrs. Brownell was a Christian, whose faith and works were evident from childhood. Her care for her children during the long illness of Mr. Bain and for many years after his death, proved her strong capabilities as a real mother. Her neighbors and friends accorded to her the respect, admiration and loyalty worthy such a character as she possessed. Both the Rebekahs and W.R.C. claimed her as a member for many years, finding in her an efficient officer and devoted member. Her church was a delight to her always, her daily life attesting the honor in which she held it and its principles.

Burial services were held at the Methodist church on Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. M. M. Cable.

Margaret Matilda Null, daughter of Wm. H. and Sarah Jane Null, was born in Upshur, Preble county, Ohio, and died at her home in Winterset, April 15, 1917.

She came to New London, Henry county, Iowa, with her parents when an infant, removing to Winterset at the age of twelve years. She was converted and became a member of the Methodist church in girlhood and lived a consistent Christian life to the day of her death.

She married to Ronald Bain Jan. 30, 1878, in Winterset, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Blanche Elnore, Ronald and Lillie Lorraine, the later having passed away in infancy. The father died Oct. 30, 1898.

Some years later she was married to Ezra Brownell. Besides the son and daughter, she is survived by two little grand daughters, two brothers and one sister: Finley E. Null of this city, Harry O. Null and Mrs. Lillie Edwards of Chattanooga, Tenn.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. M. M. Cable. Members of the Rebekah lodge and the W.R.C., of both of which the deceased was an honored member, attended in a body, the former performing their services at the church. The remains were laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery.
