Born David Joel Porter on November 20, 1943, in Winterset, Iowa, he was the son of James and Mary Anne (Long) Porter. He graduated from the Winterset High School's Class of 1962. He worked at the Gold Buffet in Winterset while in high school.
On July 18, 1965, in Winterset, he was married to Martha Mapes. Even though Martha and David spend most of their life in State Center, they began their married life in Kansas City, where he worked at The Gold Buffet and attended diesel school. After this time, they moved to Marshalltown where he began employment at International Harvester, Arbie Feeds and later with Fisher Controls, retiring after 37 years of faithful service. In 1968, the Porter family moved to State Center where they have resided ever since. David was a member of the State Center United Methodist Church, Lincoln Valley Golf Club and the UAW Local #893 Retirees. He will be fondly remembered for his love of his family, supporting the West Marshall Trojans, golfing, teaching his grandchildren to play chess and checkers and family trips camping.
Left to cherish his memory are Martha, his loving wife of 45 years, four children: Karri (Alan) Eckhart of State Center, Greg (Kristin) Porter of State Center, Krissy (Stan) Randall of Melbourne, Rodney (Stacy) Porter of Melbourne; eleven grandchildren- Branten, Owen, Courtney, Kenadey, Grace, Jackson, Ross, Rachel, Riley Georgia and Jalen, his sister Linda Sue (Larry) Dillinger of Bella Vista, Arkansas and sister-in-law Vicki Porter of Des Moines, several nieces and nephews whom he loved very much as well as many friends.
In death, he rejoined his parents and twin brother, Larry.
