E. Nelson “Hank” Howell, 89, of Whitewater, Kan., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, in Whitewater, Kan. Service will be held Saturday, April 16, 11 a.m. at Patterson United Methodist Church in Patterson. Visitation with family will be at 10 a.m. Memorials may be directed to Patterson United Methodist Church or Winterset First Christian Church.
Hank was born on July 4, 1921, in Winterset the son of Erwin Miller and Viola Marie (Hastie) Howell. He graduated from Patterson High School. He was united in marriage to Miriam Simmon on August 4, 1946, in Des Moines. Hank was a farmer and custodian. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of the American Legion and VFW in El Dorado, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam.
He is survived by his son David Howell of Whitewater, Kan.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
