Mary Adaline Porter was born in Madison county, Iowa, Oct. 18, 1861. All of her life was spent near Peru, except a few years of her girlhood life, when she lived with her parents near Creston. On Nov. 23, 1882, she was united in marriage to James A. Decker at Winterset. Seven children were born to this union, five daughters and two sons, all of whom survive her except Walter, who died at the age of one year and two months.
Those living are: Lillie May Bickell of El Reno, Ok.; Pearl Bertha Stifel of Woodstock, Minn.; Beulah Theo Hiatt, Dortha Clementa Fosher, Dessie Leo and Elmer, all of Peru. She also leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, two sisters: Mrs. Jane Weaver of Peru and Mrs. Ida Malone of Partridge, Kans.; two brothers, John and William, both of Peru, and four grandchildren of Woodstock, Minn.; besides other relatives and a large circle of friends, all who had loved her as a woman of goodness.
She had been afflicted for over a year, but was able to be up and about the home most all the time until within less than a week before her death, when she was stricken worse and her strength gradually failing her till the death angel came to relieve her of her sufferings. Through all her suffering, she put her trust in her Savior, knowing that all things done by Him are done well and frequently expressed a desire to be with Him in her Heavenly home.
She departed this life on Saturday morning, Dec. 16th, about 6 o'clock, aged 56 years, 1 month and 28 days. So has gone from our midst a good woman, who will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday at 2 p.m., the services being conducted by Rev. Rhodes of Peru. Interment was made in the Peru cemetery.
