Civil War Vet Dies; Lived Here 35 Years

Elias Wertz, 82 years old, a resident of this city for thirty-five years, died this morning at 8 o'clock at his home 2511 East Walnut street.

He had been ill for seven months with bronchial-asthma.

Mr. Wertz served four and a half years in the Ninth Indiana Volunteer infantry. He was a member of the Crocker G.A.R. post.

His wife, Josephine, two sons, Albert of Grand Island, Neb., George, of Earlham, Ia., two daughters, Mrs. Ida Wright of Ackworth and Mrs. Martha E. Fritz of Van Meter survive.

Funeral services will be held by the G.A.R. at a time to be announced later.

Transcriber's note: Elias lived in Madison County, Iowa for several years. He is buried at the Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.
