Beloved Bear Creek Woman Was Buried Last Sunday

Mrs. Allan Hadley Suffered Relapse From Brief Illness, Underwent An Operation But Failed to Rally

Maude M. Davis, daughter of Joe and Barbara Davis, was born in Dallas county, Iowa, April 28, 1885, and passed away after a very brief illness on the morning of October 23, 1930, at the age of 45 years, 5 months and 25 days.

She was united in marriage to Allen M. Hadley, December 25, 1904. To them were given a son, Lloyd, and a daughter, Fern Leone, one child having died in infancy. She was also a mother to her step-daughter, Iva.

Maude Hadley was a quiet, unassuming woman. She loved her home and family, but found time to make many friends. She was regarded by all as a good neighbor and in times of sickness or sorrow was always ready to be of any help possible.

When a girl of sixteen she was converted in a meeting held near her home by Inez and Birdie Batchelar. She was active in Sunday School and Christian Endeavor and united with the church.

For twenty-one years she had been a member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge of Dexter.

Her death came as a shock to all. Her sickness was of but a few days duration from which she seemed to be recovering, so much so that she sat up and visited with the family and her sister Winnie, who was with her. About eleven o’clock she was taken suddenly worse. Doctors were summoned, a surgeon and a nurse. Every aid that skill or love knew was given but of no avail and before many hours, her life quietly slipped away.

There remains to mourn her loss her husband and companion for over twenty-five years, the three children and three grandchildren; her mother, Barbara Thawls Davis of Redfield; four sisters Louise Kurtz of Kansas City, Mo., Winifred Lank of Dexter, Rose Ringgenberg of Allemen, Iowa, and Katherine Johnson of Adel; and one brother, James Davis of Redfield. Her father, older brother and youngest sister, together with her own baby, having gone on before.

Maude Hadley will be greatly missed by her relatives and her many friends.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, October 26, from the Penn Center Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Mrs. Riddle of the Bear Creek Friends’ church. Interment was in the Penn Center cemetery.
