Ripe In Years, His Work Finished

Wicuff Piatt was born near South Bend, Indiana, April 16,1835, and died at the home of his daughter in Stuart November 23, 1915. When a boy, his parents moved to Henry county, Illinois, and while a resident there he was married to Sarah Bricker in October, 1857. Seven children were born, one dying in infancy and one after growing to womanhood. The children living are John Piatt, Pitzer; Mrs. Clara Chammess, Kansas; Charles Piatt, Macksburg; Arthur, of Wellington, Colo.; Mrs. Thos. Penn, of Stuart.

Nine years were spent in Kansas and then the family came to Iowa and located on a farm south of Dexter, where they resided until Mr. and Mrs. Piatt became too feeble for the arduous duties of the farm. For some time Mr. and Mrs. Piatt have made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Thos. Penn.

Mr. Piatt seemed to be in his usual health when he retired Monday night. During the night, however, he complained of a pain in his chest, but said nothing to indicate that he was suffering. When the family arose Tuesday morning they discovered that his spirit had taken its flight. This was a terrible shock to his aged wife and the family.

The funeral will be held at Penn Center Friday at 2:30, conducted by Rev Hottell of the Christian church, and burial at Penn Center.
