Page 1BEN LEECH Stricken at Martensdale
Ben H. Leech of this place, was stricken with paralysis on last Wednesday, and passed away at his home in this city on Thursday evening. Mr. Leech had been operating a hardware store at Martensdale. On Wednesday morning, he went to the store as usual. After building a fire, he started to sweep out the store room when he was stricken unconscious with paralysis and fell across the hot stove. In this position he was discovered an hour or two later. He was brought home on Wednesday evening and passed away about six p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday morning, and burial in the Winterset cemetery. Brief services were conducted by Rev. Maxwell of Martensdale and Revs. W. J. Stewart and J. S. Corkey of Winterset. The Knights of Pythias order took charge of the services at the cemetery.
The deceased was born in Winterset May 19, 1870. He was married to Anna Lorn Myers of Milo, Aug. 22, 1900. The wife and two sons, Glen Robert and Kenneth Myers, survive him. About seven years ago he suffered from a paralytic stroke while engaged in the mercantile business at Red Oak and from that attack, he never regained his former good health.
