William Utsler, who has been in poor health for several years with diabetes, died Saturday evening, November 20th, about 7:30 o’clock. He took ill a week ago Monday and gradually became worse.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon at the Church of Christ Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Utsler was born and raised in Warren county, coming to Madison county about twenty years ago. He has lived in Winterset most of the time since 1906.

He is survived by his wife, and three children, Joe, John, and Merle, of Winterset, his father, Hannibal Utsler and sister, Mrs. Dollie Smith, of Indianola, and three brothers, George of Des Moines, Leslie of Cheyenne, Wyoming and James of Summerset. His obituary appears elsewhere in this paper.

Charles Wilbur, son of Hannibal and Ellen Utsler, was born near Springhill, in Warren county, Iowa, on May 1st, 1875. The family soon moved to Norwalk, Iowa, where Will’s boyhood and early manhood was spent. He attended the Norwalk schools and joined the Norwalk Christian church when a young man and was a faithful attendant and took an active part in the work of the church all the time he was there.

He moved to Madison county in 1906 and worked for two years on a farm. He was married to Maude Harrell on July 15th, 1908. To this union was born three sons: Joe, John and Merle, all in the home. After their marriage they were for a while engaged in farming and then moved to town where he has been a trusted worker for many years. His main work has been tiling, and for the past twelve years he has worked a great deal for the county, doing much of the tiling and fencing on the road work.

He has been an active member of the Modern Woodman lodge for thirty-three years, having joined when eighteen years old.

Mr. Utsler was a man of many fine traits of character; he loved the outdoors, loved his fellow men and was always ready to help others. He was a kind husband and a good father.

He has been in failing health for the past two years, and passed away November 20th, 1926, aged 51 years, 6 months and 20 days. His mother, one brother and three sisters have preceded him in death. He leaves besides his wife and three sons; his father, H. M. Utsler of Indianola; three brothers, James of Summerset, George of Des Moines, Leslie of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and one sister, Mrs. Dollie Smith of Indianola, and many other relatives and friends who loved and trusted him.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Monday at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.
