Services for Albert Allen Alexander, 78, who passed away on January 5, 2011, at his home in Burkburnett, TX, will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 14 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, IA with burial following in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Albert was born May 20, 1932 in Elkhart, IA to Merlin and Alta (Brown) Alexander, graduated from Martensdale High School in 1950, and married the love of his life Carol Millican in 1951.
He loved baseball and hired out to American Legion teams pitching both right and left handed. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being in the outdoors and was a scratch golfer working many years at the Bob Hope Classic Tournament. He was a self-taught auctioneer, loved high school girls softball, Cyclone and Hawkeye sports, and watching his grandchildren's endeavors. He sang in mens barbershop groups and passed on his love of music to his family. Albert farmed in Truro for 17 years before moving to Polk City for 29 years. He retired with 30 years service from John Deere before moving to Texas.
He was proceeded in death by his wife of 56 years Carol, sister Laurel Webb, brother Jesse, and his parents.
He is survived by his children, Doug and Judy Alexander of Fairfield, IA, Pam Alexander of Wichita Falls, TX, John and Laura Alexander of Rockport, TX, and Becky and Jack Stine of Burkburnett, TX; seven grandchildren, Jeffry, Chris, Mathew, Melissa, Michael, Brett and Grant; five great-grandchildren, Joey, Jake, Josh, Ashlynne and Madelyn; and German exchange daughter, Annette Pomeraning of Frankfurt, Germany. He also leaves behind a special companion, Josie Burk of Burkburnett.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 13 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Burkburnett Senior Center. Online condolences may be made to www.overtonfunerals.com.
