Nellie M., daughter of Clara and Wm. Hendricks, was born in Madison county, Iowa, Nov. 11, 1877. She spent her girlhood and young womanhood with her parents in Union township and was married to Chas. Gray, February 19, 1902. To this union six children were born, Raymond and Albert, now of Redwood Falls, Minn., and Eldon, Esther, Dorris and Gertrude in the home.

Two years after their marriage they moved to North Dakota and took a homestead in Bowman county where they lived eleven years. They then came back to Madison county on a farm for three years and then moved to Redwood county, Minnesota. They moved back to Winterset in February 1924 because Mrs. Gray wasn’t strong enough to stay longer on the farm.

She was taken down with pneumonia nine days before her death and passed away on January 7, 1926, aged 48 years, 1 month and 26 days.

Mrs. Gray was a believer in God and attended church, when she could although ill health and the care of her family kept her much in the home. The greatest tribute that can be paid her was she was a good mother, giving the best of her time and strength and gave to her home and family.

She leaves besides her husband and children her mother, Mrs. Clara Hendricks, six brothers, Lee and Harley Hendricks of Redwood Falls, Minn., Oliver, Everett and Milo of Winterset, and Ralph of Des Moines; also three sisters, Mrs. Alta Stone of Douglas, Wyo., Mrs. Minnie Tate of Vancouver, B.C. and Mrs. Mamie Brittain of Madison county.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon of the Church of Christ were held at the Tidrick funeral home on Sunday afternoon. Burial was made at the McDonald cemetery in Jefferson township.
