Winterset Madisonian – October 15, 1925

Mary Jane Fry was born in Ohio on Dec. 24, 1837 and passed away at her home in Winterset, Oct. 14, 1925. Her father’s family came to Winterset in 1850 while she was still young. Often has she remarked that there were only five log houses in Winterset when she came here.

She was married to David Shull in 1861. One son, now deceased, was born to this union. Ever since her childhood she has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Winterset. She was loyal to her church, true to her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. Mrs. Shull was ever a hard worker while her strength lasted. She helped to prepare some of the timbers that went into the building of the first Methodist church in Winterset. She was a very regular attendant at the church services, both morning and evening while her strength lasted and also at the mid week prayer service. She was always an interested listener to the preaching of the Word.

Mrs. Shull is survived by one sister, Mrs. Rhoda Beidleman of Burlington, Colo., and a step-daughter Mrs. Mary Kirscher of Des Moines. A good Christian woman has gone to her reward and her crown.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Wednesday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton. Interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
