BESSIE ETHEL TAYLOR SINN, Story City

Bessie E. Sinn, 99, of rural Story City, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at Bethany Manor in Story City.

A gathering of friends and family visitation will be from noon until the 1:30 p.m. service time Saturday, December 18, at Grace United Methodist Church, 624 Elm Ave., in Story City. Burial will follow the service.

Bessie Ethel Taylor Sinn was born October 4, 1911, near Winterset, to Vernie and Maggie (Andrews) Taylor. She grew up near Winterset and attended the rural schools of Madison County. She was employed at many different businesses in Winterset. She married Louie A. Sinn, of Story City, on June 26, 1947. She lived on the same farm for over 50 years except for a short time in town and moved back to the farm. Two families have been a big part of her life, the Richard Keech family and the Duane Goodmanson family. She enjoyed working outside, raising chickens, and gardening as long as her health permitted. She also enjoyed any kind of handwork from crocheting and all kinds of crafts.

Bessie joined the Order of Eastern Star in Jewell in 1961, and transferred to Ames in 1970. She held many offices, including Worthy Matron for two years and secretary for 10 years. She was a member of the White Shrine of Ames where she was Royal Matron in 1971. Bessie went on to be the Grand Royal Matron of Iowa followed by Grand Treasurer of Iowa in 1983. She also enjoyed Amaranth. She met many people in the state of Iowa as well as other states. Bessie enjoyed good health until her first surgery at the age of 90.
She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

She leaves to mourn her passing Karen Keech; grandchildren, Julie, Kevin and his wife, Diana, and Kent and his wife, Karen; great-grandchildren, Levi and Mariah; and the Duane Goodmanson family; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Louie A Sinn in 1968; adopted son, Richard Keech in 2008; two brothers, Wesley Taylor and Lee Taylor; and two sisters, Erma Ford and Flossie Cummings.

Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
