FERDINAND SCHOEN KILLED BY TRUCK

Long Time Resident of This County Killed at Altoona Saturday Evening.

Ferdinand Schoen, an honored resident of Jefferson township, this county, for more than 65 years was instantly killed at Altoona on last Saturday evening. Mr. Schoen was crossing the street in Altoona, where himself and son in law were conducting an oil station, when he was struck by a truck. His skull was fractured and he died almost instantly. A coroner’s inquest was ordered, the results of which have not yet been announced.

Mr. Schoen’s father, Wm. L. Schoen was one of the first settlers in Jefferson township, locating near the junction of North river and North branch, in the spring of 1852. Here the subject of this sketch was born three years later, and here he continued to reside until a few years ago.

Brief funeral services were held at Altoona on Tuesday and the body brought to Jefferson church, near the old home, where services and burial were held in the afternoon.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. A. O. Harpel, Des Moines; Mrs. E. J. Alexander, Altoona, and three sons: Jesse of Des Moines, Paul of Indianola, and Hugh, who lives in Oregon.
