Page 1Mrs. Caroline Hardy, widow of the late H. W. Hardy, died yesterday at the home of her son, Oren E. Hardy, 5444 Fremont avenue, Minneapolis. Mrs. Hardy attained the extreme age of 91, and until the last year or so, had a remarkably vigorous intellect and took a keen interest in the affairs of life.
Mr. and Mrs. Hardy were among the early pioneers in this community, moving here from Ohio in 1857. He was the third in order to fill the office of county superintendent of schools, assuming the duties of that office in 1861. He also enjoyed the distinction of having had the longest term of service in that office, extending over thirteen years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hardy were pioneer school teachers in this county.
The body will be brought here for burial and the funeral services held at the B. L. Hardy home on West Washington street at 2 o’clock Friday.

Page 2Caroline M. Andress was born at East Norwalk, Ohio March 1, 1834 and departed this life at Minneapolis, Minn., on Oct. 8, 1924, aged 90 years, 7 months and 8 days. At Berlin, Ohio on May 24, 1855, she was united in marriage to Henry W. Hardy, to which union there were born three children: O. E. Hardy of Minneapolis, B. L. Hardy of Winterset, and one daughter, Clara E. Bunce, formerly of Brooklyn, N. Y., who preceded her mother in death on Feb. 27, 1922.
With her husband she came to Iowa in May 1857, coming directly to Madison county. They settled on a farm three miles northeast of Winterset, where they resided until September, 1859, at which time they moved to Winterset, where she made her home for more than 65 years. Upon their arrival in Winterset in 1859, both Mr. and Mrs. Hardy became actively engaged in the early public school work of this county, and were among the first teachers in this work. Mr. Hardy was the third county superintendent of this county, an office which he held for over a period of 13 years.
She leaves to mourn her loss, two sons, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of friends to whom she has endeared herself in her long and active life in this community. Her loss will be keenly felt by the Baptist church of this city, in which she was an active worker and a most faithful member, her membership in the Baptist faith extending over a period of more than 70 years.
Funeral services were conducted by Stanley A. Gillet, pastor of the Baptist church, at the home of B. L. Hardy, and the body was laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery.
