EMORY BOND

Emory Bond, son of Henry and Susannah Bond, was born near Hermon, Knox Co., Illinois, November 30, 1858. Died at his home south of DeSoto, January 25, 1915, age 58 years, 1 month and 29 days.

He lived at his fathers home until he was married to Ella Francis Headley on December 27, 1883, remaining near Hermon for two years , they then moved to Colby, Kansas in 1886, where they under went trials and hardships of pioneer life for ten years, they then moved to a farm near Pitzer, Iowa. They lived near this place until eight years ago when they moved to the present home, generally known as the Gudlif Brooker farm. To this union was born four children, Eva, Belle Jones of Stuart, Glenn Emory of Guthrie Center, Henry Arthur and Claude Isaac who remains at home. Besides the immediate family he leaves an aged father, Henry Bond, his mother having preceded him twelve years, two sisters, Mrs. Belle Trumbull and Miss Odessa Bond all of Abingdon, Illinois, and one brother Charlie Bond of Galesburg, Illinois, besides a host of other relatives.

His sudden death was a sad shock to many hearts and leaves the family plunged in deep sorrow. Two years ago last October he was stricken with paralysis from which he never fully recovered at time being in a pitiable condition. He and his wife returned from Kansas Tuesday the 26th, where they had gone to attend the funeral of her aged mother, who passed away the l8th. Mr. Bond seemingly in his usual health. Thursday , the 28th he went to DeSoto on business in connection with his coming public sale. Apparently he had another stroke just as he reached home about 7 p.m., hearing him drive up his son, Claude went out, he told him to call Arthur as he had fallen and could not get up. After he was brought in the house he said he was cold which were his last words as then lost consciousness and passed away about 2:00 o'clock.

The funeral services were held in the Christian church at DeSoto, Iowa, Sunday morning at 10:30 conducted by a former pastor, Rev. E. L. Smith of Des Moines, the remains were taken to Stuart for burial where the family intend to reside. At the conclusion of the services at the cemetery the grave was banked with beautiful flowers from relatives and friends at Stuart and DeSoto.
