WOODSAW ACCIDENT TAKES YOUNG LIFE

Myron Ganoe, Young Man of 18 Follows Mother Mrs. Wiley (Stanley) Ganoe into Eternity After a Brief Lapse of Time.

The tragic death of Myron William Ganoe, nephew of the local Stanley families at the home of his sister six miles north of Des Moines Saturday brought sorrow to the many local relatives this week. Myron met sudden death while employed about a wood saw at the Joe Harvey home. The cutter was feeding wood into the saw, and Myron was taking it from the machine when the belt ran off the engine pulley. Myron seems to have been unaccustomed to machinery, and in trying to replace the belt with the engine running his hand and a portion of his clothing was caught by the belt and he was drawn into the flywheel. His body was flung against the revolving machinery and then upon the ground with traumatic force, and terrible injuries were inflicted. A great gash upon the head showed where he had struck the wheel, one arm was broken and one leg was not only broken in two places but almost torn from its socket. Life persisted for a short time, but the unfortunate boy never regained consciousness. He was cut down in the very prime of his youth, he was less than eighteen years old.

The body was brought to Earlham for burial, funeral services being held at the Friends Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, and interment was in the Earlham cemetery. The following obituary was read at this service.

Those present at the funeral were the father Wiley Ganoe and the sisters of the deceased, Mrs. Wilma Harvey, Mrs. Elizabeth Hall and Mrs. Esther Lear all of Ankeny, Mr. --------- and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ganoe, of DeSoto, uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Will Ganoe of Adel, grandparents, Erla Baker, of Oskaloosa, and Bernard Fry, of Creston.

Myron William Ganoe, the only son and the youngest child of Wiley and Mary Ganoe, was born in Dallas county, July 14, 1904 and died near Ankeny March 18, 1922, eighteen years old.

His mother to whom he was ever a loving and devoted son, preceeded him to their heavenly home more than four years ago, a loss that he never forgot or out-grew. It was always a pleasure, when possible, for him to place flowers on the grave of her whom he loved best, on Decoration Day.

He was converted and joined the Methodist church when seven years of age and has always since that time enjoyed the Sunday school and church services.

He was a young man in the bloom of youth, just stepping across the threshold into manhood, where life as a fair panorama spread out before him and visions of success and usefulness no doubt lured him on to a stream of victory and overcoming.

While the loved ones will miss him sadly, as the days come and go, the fields of Elysium are far more fair and beautiful than those of earth and he can there bask in the sunshine of God’s love and continue to serve him forever.

He leaves to mourn his loss father, grandparents, three sisters and a host of friends and relatives.

Earlham

The funeral of Myron Ganoe, a young man 18 years old, who was killed near Ankeny on Saturday, when a loosened belt from a wood saw threw him against the engine, striking his head, killing him instantly, was held at the Friends church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Lescault preaching the sermon.

This young man was a nephew of Mrs. Jim Fry and Mrs. Jack Williamson. His mother, Mrs. Mary Ganoe was buried from the Friends church here about four years ago, both being laid to rest in the Earlham cemetery. The father, three sisters and other relatives have the sympathy of all in the untimely death of one who was just entering manhood, with his life’s work just ahead of him.
